چکیده

In recent decades multinational enterprises have developed ways to reorganize production and trade through Global Value Chains (GVCs), manage assets liabilities Wealth (GWCs). This co-evolution has permitted the hyper-extraction of labor natural resources financial legal technologies, entangling value creation wealth accumulation. While scholars separately acknowledged role that GVCs GWCs play in generating distributional outcomes, entanglements production, trade, finance, law are now so extensive we need a sharper analytical lens understand their interrelations. pursuit such lens, propose research agenda focused on chain entanglements. We argue not governed by firms as separate or even sequenced processes, but rather accumulation strategies imbricated merit careful study. develop framework for analyzing entangled chains based two dimensions: 1) relative importance intangible versus tangible assets; 2) orientation firm strategy towards activities. Drawing sector-level examples, see general trend GVC-GWC activities leverage also note how civic activism can highlight failures extant regulatory fiscal systems intervene struggles along chains.

Entangled Chains

Consider an infinite collection of qubits arranged in a line, such that every pair of nearest neighbors is entangled: an “entangled chain.” In this paper we consider entangled chains with translational invariance and ask how large one can make the nearest neighbor entanglement. We find that it is possible to achieve an entanglement of formation equal to 0.285 ebits between each pair of nearest ...

The Governance of Global Value Chains

This article builds a theoretical framework to help explain governance patterns in global value chains. It draws on three streams of literature – transaction costs economics, production networks, and technological capability and firm-level learning – to identify three variables that play a large role in determining how global value chains are governed and change. These are: (1) the complexity o...
